How would previously cutting edge punk rock anthems translate to the contemporary context? Could the band provide an edge and avoid becoming mere tributes to themselves? Review of Woodenbox (formerly Woodenbox with a Fistful of Fivers) supported by Sara Bills and The Whisky River Band at the Ironworks, Inverness on the 25th of November 2011. Woodenbox are nearly finished the follow up to the highly acclaimed ‘Home and the Wildhunt’, with the master just being received by the band, it was a bit of a surprise when they were announced to be playing the Ironworks and not the likes of Hootananny, for which the band are well acquainted. The Glachbeg sessions have been running for over a year now, during which time they have been gently evolving within their initial remit of folk and acoustic music. The setting and atmosphere created is both warm and welcoming, with much credit going to the Bull family for their dedication to the evening. Among the usual superlatives of “amazing”, “enthralling” and “brilliant”, there is another that is mentioned every single time. “Loud”.
